Botswana Adventure Trail - 17 or 18 days Safari
London

Day to day schedule:

On arrival in South Africa, clients will be collected from the airport by a representative and transferred to a comfortable bed & breakfast. The night pre-departure will be spent here, with the rest of the group.

A comprehensive trip briefing will be given by the trip guide to prepare everyone for the early morning departure.

Day 1 - Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Early morning departure! We head for the Botswana border, driving through the beautiful Waterberg Mountains. Our camp at Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a tranquil haven lying beneath huge Mongongo Trees. Khama is home to 23 of Botswana's last remaining Rhinos and to several other mammal species like giraffe, zebra, springbok, leopard and the elusive Brown hyena.

Night - Khama Rhino Sanctuary, camping (L)

Day 2 - Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Named after Botswana's first President, Khama Rhino Sanctuary is the perfect place to find your feet if you are a first-time adventurer to Southern Africa. Our day starts with an early morning game drive through the Kalahari Sandveld, along the pans' edge. Relax in the afternoon, before a sundowner trip to the bird hide.

Night - Khama Rhino Sanctuary, camping

Day 3 - Kubu Island, Makgadikgadi Salt Pans
Today we venture on to the mystical Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. These are the largest salt pans in the world, covering an expanse of 37000 square kilometers. We camp near the archeologically interesting Kubu island, a breath-taking place which leaves us wondering about the ancient civilizations which once inhabited this mysterious place.

Night - Kubu Island, Makgadigadi Pans, camping

Days 4-6 - Central Kalahari Game Reserve & Bushmen
A full morning drive to one of the largest conservation areas in Africa. This game reserve covers 52 000 square kilometers and is one of the most uninhabited places in the world. Home to many desert species, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a special place which offers a remote, un spoilt experience like no other. Our three days here are spent exploring the Northern part of the reserve, which is pock-marked with natural pans and ancient dry river beds. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for spotting those desert animals who prefer to be active during the cooler times of the day. We have lunch and relax in the camps during the midday heat.

Night - Central Kalahari Game Reserve & Grasslands, camping

Day 7 - Maun
Exit the Central Kalahari and head for bustling town of Maun. Here we have time to e-mail friends and wonder around the gateway town to the Okavango. Overnight in quaint fixed accommodation on the banks of the Thamalakane river, one of the Okavango Delta rivers. Enjoy a restaurant meal and meet some of the interesting Maun residents.

Night - Maun, fixed accommodation (L, D)

Days 8-13 - Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta
After a busy and productive morning in Maun re-stocking supplies, we head northwards, off the beaten track, to enter Moremi Game Reserve. Lunch is enjoyed at South Gate, the entrance to the reserve.

Night - Moremi Game Reserve, camping

We will spend days 8-13 in untouched wilderness, filling our days with game drives and fireside conversation. Animals! Animals! Animals!

During this week through Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park, camp bookings are varied. The week also includes an Okavango Boat Trip on the second night in the National Parks.

Showers and toilets available.

Day 9
After a peaceful sleep and tasty breakfast we transfer our equipment onto motor boats and travel into the Okavango Delta. This labyrinth of papyrus waterways, channels and lagoons is a real highlight and the stark beauty will leave you breathless.

Night - Okavango Island, camping wild, deep in the heart of the Delta

Days 10 & 11
Morning boat trip through papyrus channels back to our base camp in Moremi Game reserve. Game drive in search of leopard, wild dog and giraffe. Great birding opportunities are also to be had in this watery paradise.

Night - Moremi Game Reserve, camping

Days 12 & 13
Northwards to Savute we go! Explore Savute marsh, driving up to a pride of 20 Lions at a fresh Buffalo kill. Savute marsh is famous for it's large Hyena groups - up to as many as 50 per group.

Night - Chobe National Park, Savute, camping

Day 14 - Chobe River-front
Continue to Chobe waterfront, via the local villages of Kachikau and Kavimba. Optional extra sunset boat cruise along Chobe river where the beautiful sunsets make for a surreal experience.

Night - Chobe river front, Chobe Safari Lodge, camping

Day 15 - Livingstone
Cross the mighty Zambezi river via the Kazangula ferry into Zambia. From here onwards, the African beat is definitely slower. The colonial town of Livingstone is a hive of activity - absorb it's vibe as we eat out at one of the local restaurants.

Night - Livingstone, fixed accommodation (D)

Day 16 - Livingstone
Last day of the trip! A full day for own expense adventure activities. Optional activities include Elephant rides, canoe excursions, white-water rafting and bungi-jumping.

Night - Livingstone, fixed accommodation (L, D)

Day 17
Today we begin the journey home. Accommodation, meals and beverages are for clients own expense over this two-day period.

Night - choice of either camping or fixed accommodation en route
